Q3 beat. The company reported Q3 revenue of $118.3 million and an adj. EBITDA loss of $12.1 million, better than our estimates of $104.0 million and a loss of $14.1 million, respectively. Notably, the company benefited from improved efficiency with declines in direct costs of policy submissions and strong agent productivity.

Prepared for AEP. In our view, the company is well positioned heading onto this year’s Annual Enrolment Period (AEP) with several technological enhancements that drive favorable customer experiences and agent productivity. Using AI based tools, such as Plan GPT, the company has reduced its average call time from 90 minutes to 67 minutes. We believe the company could make additional incremental efficiency enhancements in Q4 and beyond, which could lead to more volume and margin improvement.

Solid FY Q1 results. The company reported fiscal Q1 revenue growth of 26% to $292.3 million, better than our estimate of $275.1 million. Margins were also better than we anticipated; an adj. EBITDA loss of $1.7 million was significantly better than our estimate of a loss of $6.6 million.  

Agents performing well. The company has a high concentration of tenured agents, who performed well in the quarter. A combination of efficient marketing and strong close rates primarily led to the better-than-expected revenue and profitability. Importantly, we believe the demonstrated strength of the company’s tenured agent force and strong consumer engagement this Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) could result in an impressive upcoming fiscal Q2 for the Senior segment.

De-levering effort takes a step forward. On October 15, the company completed its previously announced securitization of a portion of its commission receivables, resulting in $100 million of newly issued securitized notes. With the proceeds, the company is paying down $100 million of its existing term loans. Importantly, the company also extended the maturities of the balance of its term loans to late 2027 (previously maturing in early 2025).

Attractive financing option. The average effective interest rate on the newly issued securitized loans is roughly 8.5%, significantly better than the company’s term loan effective rate (nearly 15%). Moreover, the newly created asset backed securities are investment grade and the company could offer the product to third-party asset managers in the future. Given that it has roughly $1 billion in commission receivables, we believe securitization is a powerful debt reduction tool for the company

Acquired e-TeleQuote. On October 1, GoHealth announced that it closed on its acquisition of e-TeleQuote, one of its peers in the Medicare insurance marketplace landscape. The deal was originally announced in early September. In our view, the terms of the transaction were highly favorable to the company as the deal appears to be immediately accretive to the company’s balance sheet.

Favorable Terms. The company acquired e-TeleQuote through a creative agreement, in which it invested $5 million for a roughly 19% stake in the business through newly issued shares. At that time, the previous owner relinquished its 81% stake, leaving GoHealth as the sole shareholder.  This left the company with all the assets on the e-TeleQuote balance sheet, with over $18 million in cash (including the $5 million paid by GoHealth) and over $100 million in contract assets. The company also gains almost 400 experienced agents.

Strong fiscal Q4. SelectQuote’s fiscal Q4 revenue of $307.2 million and adj. EBITDA of $14.4 million exceeded our estimates of $271.3 million and a loss of $2.2 million, respectively.  In our view, the strong performance demonstrated the power of the company’s synergistic business model, which serves consumers’ needs both for insurance policies and pharmacy services. 

Pharmacy momentum. Total revenue grew an impressive 38% over the prior year period, driven largely by the company’s Healthcare Services segment, which is comprised primarily of SelectRx (home-direct pharmacy business). Healthcare Services revenue was up roughly 75%, year-over-year with SelectRx membership growing to approximately 82,000, up from roughly 75,000 at the end of fiscal Q3.

Impressive results. The company reported fiscal Q3 revenue of $376.4 million, beating our estimate of $341.8 million. Adj. EBITDA in the quarter was $46.6 million, also beating our estimate, which was $40.3 million. The robust 26% revenue growth was driven primarily by Pharmacy revenue, which grew 80% over the prior year period.

Q1 results. The company reported Q1 revenue of $185.6 million, in line with our estimate of $183.0 million. Adj. EBITDA of $26.9 million was below our forecast of $30.4 million. Management indicated that market dynamics in Q1, which featured the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, were fairly consistent with the Annual Enrollment Period in Q4.

Demonstrating model integrity. During the quarter, the company reaffirmed 94,000 health insurance policies, even though such outcomes do not generate incremental revenue for the company. In our view, this serves to highlight the company’s commitment to putting the consumer first and we believe the company could be rewarded for this in the long run.

Q4 results below expectations. The company reported Q4 revenue of $276.7 million, 23.6% below our forecast of $362.0 million. Adj. EBITDA in the quarter was $57.0 million, below our forecast of $116.1 million. The weaker than expected results were due in large part to low Medicare Advantage plan turnover, which limited the total revenue from new policy sales in the quarter.


Low plan turnover. Management noted that the average incremental benefits added to Medicare Advantage plans in 2023 was lower than usual, which resulted in less plan switching by Medicare Advantage enrollees. Of the more than 300,000 consumers it served, GoHealth’s PlanFit Checkup recommended that roughly 1/3 of them stay with their existing plans.

Full Year Loss Was Less Than Expected. GeoVax reported a FY2023 loss of $26.0 million or $(14.29) per share, adjusted for a 1-for-15 reverse split in January 2024. The loss for 4Q23 was $7.6 million or $(4.29) per share, compared with our estimated loss of $9.0 million. Cash on December 31 was $6.5 million. On its quarterly conference call, the company reviewed progress in its clinical programs and confirmed milestones for 2024.

Gedeptin Program Is Moving Forward. In July 2023, GeoVax reported initial data from the Phase 1/2 trial testing Gedeptin head and neck cancer. The data showed successful delivery of the PNP gene, with safety, tumor reduction, and stable disease. Enrollment was completed in 2Q23, with additional results expected in 1H24. Expansion of Phase 2 of trial is planned during 2024. Additional trials using Gedeptin as a neoadjuvant at earlier stages of disease or in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors may be added.
