Release – Cocrystal Pharma to Present CC-42344 Phase 1 Influenza A Data at the World Antiviral Congress 2022

Research, News, and Market Data on COCP

OCTOBER 13, 2022

BOTHELL, Wash., Oct. 13, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cocrystal Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: COCP) announces that President and co-interim CEO Sam Lee, PhD will present data from the Company’s Phase 1 influenza A clinical trial with CC-42344 at the World Antiviral Congress 2022 on Friday, December 1, 2022 at 11:10 a.m. Pacific time. The conference is being held November 28 through December 1 at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego.

“We are excited to share data from the first-in-human trial with our novel, broad-spectrum antiviral candidate CC-42344 for the treatment of pandemic and seasonal influenza A, and to discuss our plan to initiate a Phase 2a human challenge influenza A clinical trial,” said Dr. Lee. “It’s an honor to be selected by conference organizers once again for an oral presentation at this prestigious gathering of antiviral experts from around the world.”

The World Antiviral Congress 2022 provides a venue for discussing antiviral vaccines, immunotherapies and antiviral therapies. The World Antiviral Congress 2022 agenda is available here.

About CC-42344 and Influenza

CC-42344 is an oral PB2 inhibitor that blocks an essential step of viral replication and was discovered using Cocrystal’s proprietary structure-based drug discovery platform technology. It is specifically designed to be effective against all significant pandemic and seasonal influenza A strains and to have a high barrier to resistance due to the way the virus’ replication machinery is targeted. CC-42344 targets the influenza polymerase, an essential replication enzyme with several highly essential regions common to multiple influenza strains, including pandemic strains. In vitro testing showed CC-42344’s excellent antiviral activity against influenza A strains, including pandemic and seasonal strains, as well as against strains resistant to Tamiflu® and Xofluza®, while also demonstrating favorable pharmacokinetic and safety profiles.

The global influenza therapeutics market is projected to reach $9.5 billion by 2027 from $6.6 billion in 2020, growing at a 4.8% CAGR between 2021 and 2027, according to a report published by Precision Reports in June 2022.

Release – Cocrystal Pharma Selects CDI-988 for Clinical Development as an Oral Treatment for COVID-19

Research, News, and Market Data on COCP

OCTOBER 11, 2022

BOTHELL, Wash., Oct. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cocrystal Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: COCP) announces the selection of its novel, broad-spectrum antiviral drug candidate CDI-988 for clinical development as an oral treatment for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. CDI-988 targets a highly conserved region in the active site of SARS-CoV-2 main (3CL) protease required for viral replication, and was specifically designed and developed as an oral antiviral candidate for COVID-19 using Cocrystal’s proprietary structure-based drug discovery platform technology.

In January 2022 the Company announced its intention to evaluate two oral protease inhibitors prior to selecting a lead candidate for clinical development. Both CDI-988 and the other candidate exhibited superior in vitro potency and broad-spectrum antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses. In preclinical studies, both candidates demonstrated favorable safety profiles and pharmacokinetic properties supportive of oral administration for the treatment of COVID-19.

“We reached the decision to move forward with clinical development of CDI-988 based on its distinct mechanism of action including an exceptionally strong affinity to the SARS-CoV-2 3CL (or main) protease compared to the known protease inhibitors and superior broad-spectrum antiviral activity against other RNA viruses,” said Sam Lee, Ph.D., Cocrystal’s President and co-interim CEO. “We are very excited about the selection of the first oral clinical candidate among our proprietary protease inhibitors.

In addition to COVID-19 antivirals, we are committed to developing potential best-in-class antiviral therapeutics to protect people worldwide from the threats of viral diseases,” he added. “Upon completion of IND-enabling toxicology studies of CDI-988, we plan to file for regulatory approval to begin a first-in-human trial in Australia in the first quarter of 2023.”

About SARS-CoV-2
SARS-CoV-2 is part of a family of coronaviruses that historically has been associated with a wide range of responses in infected individuals, ranging from no symptoms to severe disease that includes pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), kidney failure and death. By targeting the viral replication enzymes and protease, Cocrystal believes it is possible to develop an effective treatment for all illnesses caused by coronaviruses including COVID-19, SARS and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

Cocrystal is executing on a strategy to develop highly potent and safe pan-coronavirus antivirals for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants for hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients, as well as for prophylactic use by uninfected individuals.

BOTHELL, Wash., Oct. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cocrystal Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: COCP) (Cocrystal or the Company) announces that its Board of Directors has approved a 1-for-12 reverse stock split of the Company’s common stock. Cocrystal’s common stock is expected to begin trading on a split-adjusted basis at commencement of trading on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

The reverse stock split will support maintenance of the Company’s Nasdaq Capital Market’s listing. On November 16, 2021, Nasdaq Capital Markets LLC notified the Company that the Company was not compliant with Nasdaq Rule 5550(a)(2) by failing to be above $1.00 per share for 30 consecutive trading days. The purpose of the reverse split is to regain compliance with Nasdaq’s Rule and avoid delisting of its common stock.

The reverse stock split will reduce the number of shares of Cocrystal’s common stock outstanding from approximately 97.5 million shares to approximately 8.1 million shares, but will not change the authorized number of shares of common stock, which will remain at 150 million shares of common stock. The Company’s common stock will continue to trade on the Nasdaq Capital Market under the symbol “COCP.”

The reverse stock split will affect all stockholders uniformly and will not alter any stockholder’s percentage interest in the Company’s equity, except to the extent that the reverse stock split would result in a stockholder owning a fractional share. No fractional shares will be issued in connection with the reverse stock split. Fractional shares resulting from the reverse split will be rounded up to the nearest whole share. Holders of the Company’s common stock held in book-entry form or through a bank, broker or other nominee do not need to take any action in connection with the reverse stock split. Stockholders of record will be receiving information from the Company’s transfer agent regarding their common stock ownership post-reverse stock split.

In addition, pursuant to their terms, a proportionate adjustment will be made to the per share exercise price and number of shares issuable under all of the Company’s outstanding equity awards, and the number of shares authorized and reserved for issuance pursuant to the Company’s equity incentive plans will be reduced proportionately.

Furthermore, pursuant to their terms, a proportionate adjustment will be made to the per share exercise price and number of shares issuable under all of the Company’s outstanding warrants.

Cocrystal Has Reported Progress In Its Influenza Program.  Cocrystal has reported Phase 1 data and plans for a Phase 2a  trial for CC-42344, its oral drug for seasonal and pandemic influenza.  The drug is an inhibitor of the enzyme PB2 (polymerase basic 2), a subunit of the RNA polymerase required for the replication cycle of the virus.  This early point of action could make it effective against all strains of influenza.

Phase 1 Data Confirmed Once-Daily Dosing.  In July 2022, Cocrystal announced pharmacokinetic data from its Phase 1 trial. The single ascending-dose stage met its goals, confirming administration on a once-daily basis.  Patient enrollment continues in the multiple ascending dose portion.  The company plans to present the study data at a medical meeting later in the year.
