Kratos Defense and Security Solutions (KTOS) – Demonstrates SATCOM Situational Awareness to an Operationally Secure Environment Using Commercial Resources

Kratos Demonstrates SATCOM Situational Awareness to an Operationally Secure Environment Using Commercial Resources

U.S. DoD and allied nations effort included roaming capability, electromagnetic interference support and sharing of data through Unified Data Library (UDL)

SAN DIEGO
April 26, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that they were the first to successfully exhibit an integrated SATCOM capability providing real-time Situational Awareness (SA) to an operationally secure environment. The demonstration included roaming among different networks to optimize wideband satellite communications (SATCOM) using Enterprise Management and Control (EM&C). EM&C is an effort by the
DoD to plan, initiate, monitor and restore rapid, automated access to hybrid satellite constellations and networks, operated by various service providers.

The demonstration was part of a multi-national Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) demonstration hosted by
U.S. European Command,
U.S. Air Forces in
Europe and Air Forces Africa, and the
Department of the Air Force Chief Architect Office. EM&C capabilities provided by Kratos and its industry partners highlighted a means for providing real-time satellite communication end-to-end connectivity status and operational readiness including spectral data, link and equipment status and detecting/geolocating electromagnetic interference (EMI). The event also highlighted a method to restore satellite service in response to interference and the capability to gather and fuse information from sensors and satellites through the
Unified Data Library (UDL). The UDL is a
U.S. government owned, cloud-enabled database accessible by the
DoD and coalition partners. The capabilities available through EM&C are important as they support real-time warfighter communication across domains in times of war or conflict.

LTC Gary Thompson, Chief, Fighting SATCOM Capability Integration, SMC SATCOM Capability Integrator Office said, “This demonstration of EM&C helped the warfighters better understand the key satellite links used for communication and enabled precision identification, characterization, and troubleshooting of interference along the long-haul communication pathways. In addition, utilization of the UDL allowed the sharing of critical information across the joint forces for timely, fused situational awareness and lethality.”

EM&C is an important strategic goal of the military to effectively operate an integrated SATCOM enterprise by increasing assured SATCOM access for the warfighter with legacy and next-generation terminals. It improves the effectiveness of the DoD’s critical SATCOM infrastructure by enhancing resilience and giving more satellite link choices, reducing resource allocation times and improving bandwidth efficiency. Funding for the recent European demonstration was provided through the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) Broad Agency Announcement, of which Kratos is an award recipient. Kratos’ partnered with
Knight Sky, LLC for terminal and
Gateway equipment supporting the Flexible Terminal Interface (FTI), and
SES Government Solutions (SES GS) to provide SATCOM capacity.

The monetary terms of the settlement of the Grae case include a payment by CoreCivic of $56 million in return for a dismissal of the Grae case with prejudice and a full release of all claims against all defendants, including CoreCivic and its current and former officers. The proposed settlement contains no admission of liability, wrongdoing, or responsibility by any of the defendants, including CoreCivic, and is subject to the negotiation and execution of a definitive settlement agreement among the parties, and court approval of such definitive settlement agreement. A jury trial for the case was previously scheduled to begin May 10, 2021.

Space as a Lucrative Investment Space

Space as a Lucrative Investment Space

The Space and Missile Systems Center will become Space Systems Command.

The Summer of 2021 will hold some big changes for the U.S. Space Force. As announced on April 8, the USSF will absorb the Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center.  The repurposed facility will lead research and launches among other USSF military endeavors from the site in Nevada.

Space Force officials revealed some details about the transfer of the Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center, which will be renamed Space Systems Command (SSC).

The repurposed command will be responsible for “developing, acquiring, equipping, fielding, and sustaining resilient space capabilities to enhance joint lethality. This includes launch, developmental testing, on-orbit checkout, and sustainment. SSC will also provide strategic oversight of USSF science and technology activities,” the Space Force said in a statement.

Is there an investment opportunity in the U.S.A.’s new branch? None of us have a crystal ball, but there may be many. In February Gen. John “Jay” Raymond said at the Virtual Aerospace Warfare Symposium:

“Now, the service is ready to move on to bolstering behavioral norms with international allies and launching more assets into space. Because the commercial industry has lowered the barriers to space, almost all Space Force missions can be commercially viable with smaller, more operationally relevant satellites.”

“Launching more assets into space” and “using commercial operations” opens up possibilities for many companies. This could include Maxar Technologies Inc (NYSE: MAXR). Maxar is an integrated space and geospatial intelligence company with a full range of space technology solutions for commercial and government customers, this includes satellites, Earth imagery, geospatial data, and analytics.

There are many mega-military contractors involved in aerospace and defense, but the stable smaller companies can see a higher percentage impact on their bottom line from a big contract, this would likely have a positive impact on investors. Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (KTOS) provides engineering, information technology (IT) services, and warfighter solutions to the U. S. Department of Defense.  One of its two segments, Kratos Government Solutions (KGS), provides engineering, IT, and weapons systems to federal, state, and local government agencies. It provides weapon systems sustainment, missile, rocket, and weapons systems test and evaluation; mission launch; public safety and security; modeling and simulation, and unmanned aerial vehicle products, among others.

Satellite Production is to be scaled up under the USSF.  General Raymond addressed this at the February symposium when he said:

“As we design that force, we want to design it in a way that capitalizes on this new business model that has emerged, that produces satellites off of a production line, rather than the one-off, handmade wooden shoe that takes years and years and years to build.”

Production line satellites could benefit the entire supply chain and allow small satellite companies to either win contracts directly or through larger contractors. Digging deeper into companies like C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. (CYSNF), which designs, develops, and manufactures mobile satellite-based antenna systems, could uncover information from which to base investment decisions. C-COM has a diversified mix of customers and has sold more than 8,000 systems in over 100 countries in industries that include, Oil & gas Exploration, Military Communications, SNG, Emergency Communications, Cellular Backhaul, Telemedicine, Government Services, Mobile Banking, and others.

Take-Away

The revised spending patterns of the U.S. military, especially with the growth of Space Force, can provide many opportunities for investors of small and microcap companies. These smaller public corporations could benefit in ways that impact their bottom line by large percentages. Channelchek is a resource for data, analysis, and research on many of the interesting candidates.

Release – Kratos Defense and Security Solutions (KTOS) – Autonomous Truck-Mounted Attenuator Named Infrastructure Game Changer

Kratos’ Autonomous Truck-Mounted Attenuator Named Infrastructure Game Changer by American Society of Civil Engineers

SAN DIEGO
March 29, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider and industry-leading provider of high-performance unmanned systems, today announced its Autonomous Truck-Mounted Attenuator (ATMA), a driverless version of mobile crash barriers, has been recognized by the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as an “Infrastructure Gamechanger” in the organization’s 2021 Report Card for American Infrastructure.

ASCE combed through successful solutions across the major infrastructure sectors to identify the most innovative game changers and identified North Dakota’s pilot program utilizing Kratos’ ATMA which was developed in collaboration with  Royal Truck & Equipment, the nation’s largest producer of Truck Mounted Attenuator vehicles.

In the commercial highway maintenance industry, driving a Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) is one of the most dangerous task assignments in the work zone. The TMA vehicle functions as a human-driven mobile crash barrier following behind slow moving highway maintenance operations shielding those workers and equipment from errant drivers entering the work zone. Workers assigned to drive the TMA are at serious risk of lifelong injury if/when their TMA is impacted by another vehicle which can range from a family sedan to an 80,000-pound tanker truck traveling at 60 mph or more. In
the United States, there are more than 12 crash-related fatalities every week in the road work zone.

Kratos’ Autonomous Truck-Mounted Attenuator, a driverless TMA used during road construction and highway maintenance vehicles, shields workers and equipment ahead from errant drivers entering the work zone. Hundreds of lives are lost in the
U.S. annually with manned TMAs. By removing the human from the most dangerous assignment in mobile highway operations, Kratos’ ATMA has the potential to save lives and change this deadly trend.

Steve Fendley, President of Kratos Unmanned Systems Division, said, “Kratos is a leading innovator in development and application of affordable unmanned technologies. Our disruptive solutions have consistently been game changers in defense applications, and we are proud to now be recognized for providing a game-changing infrastructure solution that will save lives on America’s roadways.”

Rob Roy, Owner and President of Royal Truck & Equipment, said, “Royal is committed to continuously raising the bar with TMA truck safety. The ATMA, built in partnership with Kratos, is just one of the many ways we’re dedicated to improving and innovating work zone safety.”

Kratos Unmanned Systems’ ATMAs have driven more than 2,000 miles since launch in 2017, and in addition to the ongoing pilot in
North Dakota, Kratos ATMAs are currently deployed in
California

Release – Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS) – Awarded $8.9 Million Contract

Kratos Awarded $8.9 Million Contract for CH-47F Chinook Maintenance Training Systems Enhancements

SAN DIEGO, March 04, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that it has received an $8.9 million subcontract to upgrade four Kratos CH-47F Chinook Avionics Trainers (CATs) and two Kratos CH-47F Maintenance Blended Reconfigurable Aviation Trainers (MBRATs) located at the U.S. Army’s 128th Aviation Brigade in Ft. Eustis, Virginia.

Kratos will upgrade the trainers’ multiple avionics systems and aircraft survivability equipment to ensure concurrency of the simulators to the latest CH-47F configuration. The work will be performed under a subcontract to USfalcon, Inc. under its OASIS Pool 6 contract.

The CH-47F CAT is a High-Fidelity Hands-On-Training System (HOTS) that provides full-task training through simulation of all avionics in an integrated configuration within a high-fidelity physical environment. The CAT replicates the aircraft interior and exterior environments with a simulation of all replaceable modular components along with the required test, measuring and diagnostic equipment.

“The maintenance of the CH-47F is critical to Army readiness,” said Jose Diaz, Senior Vice President of Kratos Training Solutions. “The MBRAT provides student training through simulation of the CH-47F cockpit on multiple touch screen monitors. It blends a high-fidelity virtual environment, physical attributes and spatial physical awareness with established CH-47F simulation software. These upgrades will ensure the concurrency of the CH-47F MBRATs and CATs avionics, flight control and survivability systems with those of the CH-47F.”

Kratos develops advanced, cost effective training solutions for U.S. and allied forces that enhance warfighter readiness and survivability. Kratos is driving innovation in military simulation and training programs by integrating the latest immersive technologies with its Common Open Architecture content development process and advanced simulation systems for air, ground, maritime and soon space domains.
